HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2022
Happy International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022! Around the world, businesses and individuals are celebrating the achievements of women and delving deeper into how we can improve gender equality.
At InfoCentric, we held a panel discussion to share insight on gender equality in the workplace, as well as reflecting on our own strategies to continually improve.
In this article, we’re unpacking what IWD is and how it can be celebrated.
What is International Women’s Day?
IWD is an event celebrated across the globe. This year it was held on the 8th of March 2022, and had the theme #breakthebias.
The day honours women and promotes a gender equal world, by calling out inequality and celebrating women’s achievements.
How can you celebrate International Women’s Day?
Here are just a few of the ways that you could celebrate IWD.
- Celebrate women
Celebrating women, highlighting achievements and telling the women in your business or personal life how much you appreciate their skills is a great way to celebrate IWD.
- Educate
Often bias can be very subtle, but very powerful. By undergoing training, we can each learn about the unconscious biases we may have. If you run a business, or work in HR, encouraging staff members to do training modules on equality in the workplace can be invaluable.
- Reflect
International Women’s Day is a great day to reflect on the women in your life, and perhaps your relationship to them. Whether it’s your personal or business relationships, the day presents a great opportunity to reflect on equality.
- Discuss
As well as reflecting individually, IWD can be a great opportunity to get people together to discuss the topic of gender equality. With transparency and honesty, people will be able to highlight their experiences and move forward with more clarity on the topic.
IWD at InfoCentric
We celebrate women in our organisation every day of the year, but we felt that International Women’s Day was a great opportunity to open discussion on the topic of gender equality. As such, we held a panel discussion internally, exploring how bias impacts our lives.
Our panel outlined that action taken to #breakthebias includes transparency, self-reflection, training, flexibility, leadership, mentoring and culture. We discussed how we can support female-led businesses, and encourage more women to enter into the fields of technology and science.
At InfoCentric we plan to review our culture, systems and processes to find opportunities to minimise or eliminate bias for our team. Like every business, we can always make improvements when it comes to championing diversity and supporting women, so the event was a great reminder to continue to improve, reflect and learn.
A huge thank you goes to our panel members Liana Edelman, Michael Rajasingam and Abby Hammerstein for engaging us with an insightful discussion!
Are you a woman in tech?
Our panel discussion also raised interesting questions about the lack of female representation in technology roles. Globally, men outweigh women in the tech world, with Deloitte predicting that in 2022, just 33% of tech roles will be filled by women.
This is an improvement on previous years, but there is still work to do. To help combat the lack of women in tech, we always encourage women to apply for open roles within our organisation.
If you’re a woman in tech, or a woman who wants to start a career in technology, we want to hear from you! Reach out now to discuss open roles.
